Explore the Components of a Comprehensive Literacy Curriculum.
(to the left) |
A Comprehensive Literacy Curriculum provides an evidence-based learning framework for educators to focus on what they want learners to know, have and be able to do. The central focus of comprehensive literacy instruction is helping learners construct meaning through reading, writing, listening, viewing, speaking, and/or representing.
It includes instructional techniques, methods, approaches and strategies to promote learning success. By developing a strong understanding of the components (left), educators may better assist learners in making conscious choices about the skills and strategies they will use to support their learning in all content areas.

"There is no single method or single combination of methods that can successfully teach all children. Therefore, teachers must have a strong knowledge of multiple methods for teaching and a strong knowledge of the children in their care so they can create the appropriate balance of methods needed for the children they teach." Intnl. Reading Assoc, 1999
