DEVELOPING AN ON-LINE COURSE
PHASE I: ASSESS COMPETENCIES /GOALS
What is your expertise?

EXAMPLES: Teacher, Trainer, Counselor, Tutor, Advisor, Advocate, Specialist, etc.

What would your first course be about?

EXAMPLES: Literacy, Math, Science, Arts...professional development for educators;
How-To's for new in-store product specialists

Is there a market for your course?

EXAMPLE: Educators needing to gain professional development credits; In-store demonstrators who need to understand your new product;

How much time are you willing to put in developing your course?

Development times vary depending on scope of content and design, the skills you have, and the efficiency with which you work. We recommend that you try to balance effort in with potential benefit.

How much time are you willing to put in managing your course once it is on-line?

You determine your time input for interactive courses; independent learning courses require (almost) no maintenance.

If you have the expertise, know what you want to teach,
realistically believe there is a market, and you are willing to do the work...
go on to Phase II.

PHASE II: TELL US ABOUT IT! top

Email us a proposal that briefly describes your topic, qualifications, target audience, and why you believe there is a market. We will provide you with an expanded (proprietary) information package and an application for member/client status. In this application, you will be asked to provide personal information (name, address, etc.), expand on your proposal, and provide a resume and references. If your application is accepted, you may choose from a variety of plans and services to get you up and running.

PLEASE NOTE: In your email, put: "last name first initial: PROPOSAL" in message heading.
Example- SmithJ:Proposal
This will ensure that your email gets through our spam filters.

If your proposal is accepted, go on to PHASE III.

PHASE III: CONSTRUCT AN ACTION PLAN
top

When your course is accepted, you will receive detailed guidelines for every step in the development process including free access to an on-line course and professional help availability for every step. You can learn to do it all yourself; or you can just be the content provider and we'll do everything else.

When your action plan is ready, go on to Phase IV.

PHASE IV: DEVELOP YOUR COURSE
top

You will need to decide on goals and objectives, learning activities, pre-requisites, timeframe, interactive or independent models, content (information), sources and resources, assessment, pricing, and many other details that we will guide you through.

When your course is ready, go on to Phase V.

PHASE V: MARKET YOUR COURSE
top

As an independent distance education provider, you will need to market your work, e.g. let everyone know that your course is on-line, subscribe to newsletters and post your news; take-out an ad in domain-focused publications! (Many more ideas in our on-line course for members.)

As a member of LearningDotInfo, you will benefit from our global marketing efforts as well as category-targeted advertising (e.g., education, training). You may also advertise your course(s) directly in our newsletter at reduced rates.

When marketing efforts are successful, go on to Phase VI.

PHASE VI: RUN YOUR COURSE ...! top
When your first course is up and running,
go back to Phase I and develop another!
